On June 21, 2014, the Eighth Joint Working Group Meeting for the Botswana Morupule B 4x150MW coal-fired power plant undertaken by CNEEC took place at the worksite in Botswana. The meeting was organized by Chinese and Botswana governments (Botswana Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Botswana Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Botswana), and attended by the relevant contract parties, i.e., the project owner of Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) and the contractor of China National Electric Engineering Co, Ltd. (CNEEC). Accompanied by Vice-president Zhang Yanfei and the project manager, CNEEC President Jin Chunsheng was invited to appear at the function. Major local media, including BTV, the official Botswana TV station, and Daily News, the official Botswana media, had a full coverage of the meeting.

During the meeting, Botswana government officials gave full approval to the project, expressed warm approbation of CNEEC’s outstanding contribution in operation assurance and power generation during the winter season and looked forward to the future development of the project and further cooperation between the two countries in the power service. Meanwhile, said the Botswana officials, the commissioning of all the generator sets will change the scenario of power supply in country: Botswana will no longer depend on foreign countries for her power supply. Instead, while ensuring power supply to her own people, Botswana will be able to supply power to other countries. And it’s CNEEC who has helped Botswana to make history. President Jin promised to Botswana that CNEEC would continue to accord support as usual to this power plant and expected more cooperation with Botswana in the power field for the benefit of all parties.

After the meeting, all the guests present visited the power plant and the media interviewed there the Botswana Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, the General Manager of the project owner and the President of CNEEC.

President Jin then listened to Vice-president Zhang Yanfei, who was in charge of the project, for a detailed report on the project progress, and gave his instructions on the follow-up works.

The project will officially enter the warranty period on June 24, 2014. At present, the Project Department at the worksite has completed the relevant arrangement in organization, staffing, working procedure and safety management for the warranty period, and has worked out with the project owner and put into execution The Defect Report & Processing Procedures and Management Method in Warranty Period.
