On April 9, Li Xiaoyu, Deputy General Manager of China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH), and Wang Bo, Assistant General Manager of SINOMACH and Chairman of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), met with Kamar Bakrin, CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) during their work in Nigeria. In the presence of Li Xiaoyu and Wang Bo, Yan Weihua, General Manager of China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC), and Kamar Bakrin signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the sugarcane plantation and sugar factory project in Kwara State, Nigeria. This marks CNEEC’s breakthrough into a new field in the traditional market.
The aim of this project is to build a modern sugarcane plantation and a sugar factory with an annual output of 100,000 tons in Kwara State, Nigeria. Upon completion, the project will significantly enhance Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in sugar. It is expected to meet 5% of the country’s sugar demand, effectively ensuring the security of national sugar supply. At the same time, this project will directly create over 500 job opportunities, provide stable sources of income for local residents, and promote sustainable regional economic development. Through the development of this project, the company will drive SINOMACH’s core business of equipment manufacturing, promote the export of high-end agricultural machinery and equipment such as tractors, and create a synergistic effect of “project contracting plus equipment manufacturing”. This will help SINOMACH’s machinery equipment go global and further expand the Nigerian and surrounding markets.
The signing of this MoU is an important achievement in the concerted cooperation within SINOMACH. The teams from CMEC and CNEEC in Nigeria conducted in-depth research on the country’s agricultural policies and development needs in the agricultural sector. They took the initiative in establishing contacts with NSDC to promote agricultural equipment from YTO Group Corporation (YTO) and further extend the service chain of EPC projects. With their efforts, the MoU was successfully signed. The project is a vivid example of CNEEC’s active response to the call from the heads of state of China and Nigeria on “deepening agricultural cooperation and promoting common development”. It also reflects CNEEC’s commitment to high-quality co-construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) through practical actions.
Zhao Weilin, Chairman of YTO, participated in this event on invitation. Also in attendance were executives from CMEC’s Fourth Engineering Package Division and CNEEC’s Regional Marketing Department No. 2 and Engineering Department No. 5.
