SNEL, the owner of a generator unit renovation and upgrading project at the Inga II Hydroelectric Power Plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), officially signed a document for the first progress payment withdrawal. This marks a milestone in the major energy infrastructure construction project undertaken by China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC).

As the core hub of DRC’s national power system, the Inga II Hydroelectric Power Plant contributes more than half of the country’s power generation. After more than 40 years of continuous operation, the power plant is in urgent need for modernization. In this project, CNEEC undertakes tasks to transform nearly half of generator units, upgrade technologies, and renew public equipment and facilities of the power plant. Upon completion of all renovation tasks, the output, efficiency, and automation of generator units will be significantly improved to provide a more reliable source of local power supply.

DRC is a populous country in Africa with abundant mineral resources and strong development momentum. After it enters into operation, the project will become an important engine driving the development of the country’s society, economy, and people’s wellbeing. The project will also help the company deepen its strategic deployment for the distinctive business of power plant renovation, adding new impetus to the cooperation in energy infrastructure between China and Africa.
