At the invitation of the partner Covenant Engineering GmbH (CE), Zhao Hui, Chairman of China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC), led a delegation to Ethiopia for an onsite inspection of the 1,200TPD waste-to-energy project in Addis Ababa. Together with CE and Shenzhen Energy Group, CNEEC signed two key agreements for the project.

On April 22, CNEEC and CE, the project initiator, signed an EPC framework agreement for the 1,200TPD waste-to-energy project in Addis Ababa. This marks the project has advanced from early preparation to substantive development, laying a foundation for follow-up joint investment and construction.

At a ceremony chaired by the Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa on April 24, Li Yingfeng, Chairman of Shenzhen Energy Group, Zhao Hui, Chairman of CNEEC, and Mr. Kalkidan, Managing Director of CE, officially signed a joint development agreement for the waste-to-energy project in Addis Ababa. The signing was witnessed by Chen Hai, the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, the Executive Mayor of Addis Ababa, and representatives from Ethiopian departments such as the Ministry of Finance, the Public-Private Partnership Project Management Bureau, and the Urban Waste Cleaning and Management Bureau.

This is a major environmentally-friendly energy project in Ethiopia, which can handle more than 400,000 tons of waste and generate approximately 200 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year after it is completed. It will not only significantly improve the environmental quality of Addis Ababa, but also inject new momentum into Ethiopia’s economic development by creating new job opportunities and providing renewable energy.
