The groundbreaking ceremony of the 60MW dual-fuel power plant project undertaken by China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC) in Nouakchott, Mauritania was held. The event was witnessed by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, Mauritanian Energy Minister Mohamed Ould Khaled, Xiao Wensheng, Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in Mauritania, and representatives of embassies in Mauritania. Sidi Salem Mohamed Elabd, Director General of the project owner, Mauritanian Electricity Company (SOMELEC), and Chen Na, Financial Director and Deputy General Manager of CNEEC, attended the ceremony.
On the afternoon of April 28, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani attended the groundbreaking ceremony. He laid the foundation and unveiled the plaque for the 60MW dual-fuel power plant project. The Mauritanian Energy Minister delivered a speech at the ceremony, emphasizing that the project is a key initiative taken by the Mauritanian government to advance the national energy strategy and further modernize the country’s power infrastructure.
The official launch of this project not only marks a strategic move of CNEEC in the Mauritanian market, but also represents a significant milestone for China and Mauritania to deepen cooperation and seek common development in the energy sector. CNEEC will take this project as an opportunity to set new benchmarks in the Mauritanian and West African markets and continue to develop exemplary projects for green and low-carbon development.
