On August 15, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei and Commercial Counsellor Yu Hongchi inspected the construction site of theAzerbaijan Battery Factory in the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ). Gu Yi, the onsite project manager for the factory built by China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC), received Lu Mei and her delegation and briefed them on the geological survey results and follow-up project planning.

After the briefing, Lu Mei commended CNEEC’s phased achievements and asked for details on workforce localization and material supply. She pointed out that the battery factory aligns with the AFEZ’s focus on high-tech and high-value-added industries. Upon completion, the project will boost the local new energy sector, create substantial job opportunities, and promote China-Azerbaijan cooperation in production capacity. The embassy will follow the project closely and support CNEEC during the construction phase.

The onsite project manager thanked Lu Mei and Yu Hongchi for their guidance. He pledged that CNEEC will leverage its new-energy expertise for high-standard and high-quality construction and deliver a landmark project for China-Azerbaijan economic and trade cooperation. At the same time, the company will continue to meet the needs of Azerbaijani stakeholders, seek cooperation opportunities in more new-energy fields, and contribute to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Azerbaijan.
